Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle

The Spa Novices’ Hurdle, also known as the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle, is a Grade 1 National Hunt hurdle.

It is run on the New Course at Cheltenham over a distance of 3 miles and during its running 12 hurdles have to be jumped.

It was one of several new races introduced at the Festival when a fourth day was added to the meeting in 2005.

The vegetable growing company Albert Bartlett began supporting the race in 2008, and since then it has held Grade 1 status.

Year Horse Trainer Odds
2010 Berties Dream P Gilligan 33
2009 Weapon’s Amnesty C Byrne 8
2008 Nenuphar Collonges A King 9
2007 Wichita Lineman Jonjo O’Neill 1
2006 Black Jack Ketchum Jonjo O’Neill 1

In the Albert Bartlett you really need to be concentrating on good stayers who have strong form over 3 mile.

A horse that was a previous course winner is a good start.

Experienced staying types should be inspected closely.

Your selection should have been at least in top 2 places in a graded hurdle last time out.

Look for horses that have won over at least 2 mile 5 Furlongs and at least 3 times over hurdles.

The leading trainer is Jonjo O’Neill who won this race in 2006 and 2007
