The Queen Mother Champion Chase
The Queen Mother Champion Chase
This is the feature race on day 2 of the festival, and dates back to 1959 when it was ran as the Champion Chase.
It was renamed the Queen Mother Champion Chase to mark the Queen Mother’s 80th Birthday in 1980.
This race is a Grade 1 Chase, run over 2 miles on the main course. It is a race for 5 years old and upwards who have to jump 12 fences in total.
This race is usually good for punters and its worth looking at the front 2-3 in the betting market – the winner is usually found at the head of the market.
The 2011 betting leads us to believe a fascinating race is in store with last year’s winner Big Zeb taking on Master Minded, and of course Sizing Europe is a live contender.
If all line up on the day fit and well it is sure to be a great race.
Big Zeb, the winner last year, was always going to be a main contender if he sorted out his jumping. He fell at the festival in 2009, But just before the festival last year he put in a good round of jumping to show he was ready and duly won for all backers including myself.
| Year | Horse | Trainer | Odds |
| 2010 | Big Zeb | C Murphy | 10 |
| 2009 | Master Minded | P Nicholls | 0.5 |
| 2008 | Master Minded | P Nicholls | 3 |
| 2007 | Voy Por Ustedes | A King | 5 |
| 2006 | Newmill | J Murphy | 16 |
